Shawn Daschuk - B.Sc. Land Use and Environmental Studies:
Shawn’s multidisciplinary degree in biology, chemistry, economics, and geography, has prepared him to work on many projects. Shawn has been working primarily in northwest Saskatchewan and north eastern Alberta. He has been involved in environmental planning and reclamation largely associated with seismic operations and wellsite/flowline construction planning and reclamation. Within these projects, Shawn has conducted initial site assessments, coordinated surface reclamation activities, supervised remediation projects, prepared Environmental Protection Plans, and managed contamination remediation projects.
The majority of the areas he has worked in have been deemed environmentally sensitive, such as First Nations Lands, Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Lands, Wildlife Development Funds Lands, Duck’s Unlimited Lands, Provincial Forest Lands, Provincial Park Lands, Wildlife Protection Acts Lands, High Arctic (Permafrost environments), etc.
Shawn has the required skills in coordinating and managing multi-disciplinary environmental impact assessments, and providing advice on a day to day basis regarding environmental affairs, policies and strategic planning. This service is often critical in attaining project approval in an increasing complex regulatory environment. Through the development of good relationships with local communities, Shawn is able to manage public information and participation to significantly reduce the time required to complete the approval process, and consequently can improve the economic viability of a project.
Since November of 2002 Shawn has been managing all the environmental aspects of the 3.5 Billion dollar Nexen Inc./OPTI Canada, Long Lake Project in Fort McMurray. This project is a SAGD/Upgrader project has exposed Shawn to the process, policy and procedures to obtaining environmental approvals and ensuring environmental compliance in the oilsands.

Curtis Riou - B.Sc. (Honours) Environmental GeoScience:
Curtis has 13 years experience in the oil and gas industry with an extensive knowledge of environmental mitigation and soil, water, and air sampling techniques and is now a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. Curtis has acted as project lead for numerous projects for the oil and gas community working on environmentally sensitive government-owned lands including arctic and aeolian environments. Curtis has also performed many Phase I, II and III, Environmental Protection Plans, Project Proposals, Restoration Plans, pre-disturbance and reclamation studies. Curtis was previously employed by Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment in the parks department for Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, Saskatchewan. This developed his understanding of governmental policies within Saskatchewan. Also involved was the development and communication of programs that educated stakeholders on the integrated resources management practices for the area. This involves knowledge of First Nation culture and customs, as they are a major stakeholder for the area.
Curtis also has experience as a Soil and Terrain Specialist on a Pipeline Inspection Team. This involved site terrain surveys and inspection to determine susceptible areas that would cause stress corrosion cracking in natural gas transmission lines. Curtis was also a part of an advisor committee of engineers from the University of Saskatchewan for Sask Water. The committee reviewed a discussion paper for the development of an integrated water management strategy for Saskatchewan.

Randy Slater - Environmental Consultant:
Randy received a graduate diploma in Renewable Resources Technology at the Kelsey Institute, Saskatoon, SK in 1982. Prior to joining X-Terra, Randy was employed for 25 years with Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment in the regulatory and compliance discipline. The last 10 years of this employment dealt with specifically managing the Ministry’s interests in industrial activities (primarily oil and gas, mineral exploration and utility) in Northwest and Central Saskatchewan. Randy has a thorough understanding of the principles of ecosystem and risk based management, environmental protection concepts, and environmental legislation and protocols used by the Ministry in decision-making. Randy was a significant contributor to designing and implementing environmental review processes and program delivery strategies for the oil and gas, mineral exploration and utility industries in Saskatchewan. Working with the Ministry has also provided Randy with extensive experience in consultation with various interest groups, First Nations, government agencies, and the public as well as a thorough understanding of the function and role performed by various government agencies in and outside of Saskatchewan. Randy has been working for X-Terra as an Environmental Consultant for the past two years, specializing in oil and gas exploration and development projects in northwest Saskatchewan and working as an environmental consultant for a major SAGD project in northeast Alberta.

Jon Lamnek - Diploma in Environmental Sciences (Monitoring & Enforcement):
Jon Lamnek has obtained a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science with a major in Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement. This diploma focused predominantly on environmental law (provincial and federal levels), chemistry, sampling, assessment methods and reporting.
Jon Lamnek has a total of ten years in the Environmental Industry covering numerous aspects. Oil field experiences consist of drilling waste management, ground water sampling and analysis and data interpretation. Main and current experience lies within well site assessments, pipeline and access road planning and assessments, seismic program assessments as well as construction /reclamation monitoring for these projects.
Through X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd., Jon Lamnek has handled projects on private land, provincial crown land (AB and SK) and land under Federal jurisdiction (First Nation Reservations in both AB and SK). Having completed many projects on First Nations land, Jon Lamnek has gained experience in all aspects of Environmental Assessment practices, reporting requirements and conducting site/facility audits. Along with these projects, a great deal of time has been spent as a consulting liaison between Industry representatives, Indian Oil and Gas Canada, and First Nations Council members.
More recently, Jon has been involved with a major SAGD Project in Northern Alberta. Focus has been on maintaining environmental compliance, core hole programs and SAGD / Core hole drilling waste management.

Zoe Smith - B.Sc. Biology:
Zoe Smith graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a four year degree in biology. Zoe’s studies included various areas of biology such as ichthyology, ornithology, mammalogy, animal behaviour, plant biology, and ecology. Previous employment with the Battleford’s Wildlife Federation provided Zoe with experience in identifying plants, waterfowl, songbirds, bird eggs, as well as other wildlife. To further her plant identifying skills, she has attended a Saskatchewan rare plant seminar at the University of Saskatchewan. She has recently completed a Rare Plant Survey Techniques Course hosted by the Native Plant Society and the Canadian Wildlife Service.
X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd. has provided Zoe with experience in writing Environmental Assessments, Project Proposals, Restoration Plans, and Environmental Protection Plans addressing various federal and provincial government agencies. In the field, Zoe has performed assessments and monitoring of leases and pipelines, performed rare plant risk assessments, bird surveys, oil spill sampling, and audits. Further field experience includes working on sensitive lands, such as Northern Provincial Forest, Manitou Sand Hills, WHPA (Wildlife Habitat Protection Act) lands, and PFRA Community Pastures.

Chrissy Herman - B.Sc. (Honours) Land Use and Environmental Studies/Biology:
Chrissy graduated from the Land Use and Environmental Studies (LUEST) Program at the University of Saskatchewan. Through the LUEST program Chrissy also completed a four-year degree in biology. Studies at the university concentrated on ornithology, plant systematics, chemistry, toxicology, environmental assessment, environmental law, soil science, and economics. A work term with the Canadian Wildlife Service provided Chrissy with experience working on Federal Lands, identifying native plants, wildlife and wildlife habitat, and a familiarity with the current wildlife legislation. Staying current on provincial regulations is a priority, including attending the Government of Saskatchewan’s annual Oil and Gas Review meetings.
Chrissy’s experience with X-Terra includes field assessments, preparing Environmental Assessments and proposals, and monitoring for lease construction, drilling, pipelining, and seismic programs on Provincial and Federal Crown and First Nation lands. Additional experiences include performing lease renewals on Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture lands and constructing Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment required mitigation plans for private lands. Chrissy is practiced in performing assessments in sensitive environments including: WHPA (Wildlife Habitat Protection Act) lands, PFRA Community Pastures, the Northern Provincial Forest, Meadow Lake Provincial Park, and the Manitou Sand Hills, and recently completed the Native Plant Society of Saskatchewan’s Rare Plant Survey Techniques Course.

Cameron Barton – B.Sc. Land Use and Environmental Studies:
Cameron Barton graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a four year degree in Land Use and Environmental Studies. Cameron’s multidisciplinary degree encompassed biology, geography, sociology and economics, and focused on the Earth’s natural resources and the corresponding environmental issues, providing him with a solid background in environmental management.
X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd. has provided Cameron with experience in performing the field work and report writing required to complete Pre-Disturbance Assessments, Environmental Audits, Environmental Assessments, Project Proposals / Restoration Plans, and Environmental Protection Plans. In completing these projects, Cameron has developed a working relationship with various Provincial and Federal Government agencies including Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Environment and Indian Oil and Gas Canada. Through these projects Cameron has assessed and monitored lease and access construction, drilling, pipeline construction, spill cleanup and seismic operations on private land, provincial crown land, and land under federal jurisdiction. Cameron has worked in a wide range of sensitive environments throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan including various First Nation lands, PFRA community pastures, WHPA (Wildlife Habitat Protection Act) lands, the Northern Provincial Forest, Meadow Lake Provincial Park, the Grand Cheviot, the Manitou Sand Hills and the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range.

Lindsey Brekko – B.Sc. Environmental and Conservation Science. Articling Agrologist (A.Ag):
Lindsey Brekko graduated from the University of Alberta with a four year degree in Environmental and Conservation Science (ENCS), majoring in Land Reclamation. Lindsey’s studies focused on soil science, revegetation, remediation, range management, plant identification, plant and wildlife biology, environmental assessment and environmental law and regulation. Previous employment has provided Lindsey with experience in reclamation and remediation projects including conducting detailed site assessments (DSA’s), Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, plant identification and coordinating the reclamation of wellsites.
X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd. has allowed Lindsey to expand her experience in conducting Environmental Assessments, Project Proposals, seismic monitoring and assessments, Pre-Disturbance Assessments, spill monitoring and clean-up, and environmental audits. These projects have allowed Lindsey to develop a working relationship with Indian Oil and Gas Canada and First Nations Peoples as well as Provincial and Federal government agencies. Lindsey has recently been involved with large drilling programs and has been involved in scouting lease locations through to construction, drilling and reclamation phases of the project. Lindsey has also been involved in a major SAGD project located in northern Alberta. Lindsey has worked on the Core Hole Drilling Program and has been involved with spill and waste management. Lindsey has worked in a range of sensitive environments throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan including various First Nation lands, PFRA community pastures, WHPA (Wildlife Habitat Protection Act) lands, Manitou Sand Hills and northern Alberta.

Steve Lamnek - Environmental Consultant:
Steve Lamnek received a graduate diploma in Environmental Science majoring in Environmental Monitoring and Compliance from Lakeland College in Vermilion AB. Steve has been working for X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd. as an Environmental Consultant for six years specializing in assessing and monitoring seismic programs, oil and gas well site assessments as well as pipeline assessment and construction. In the past years Steve has worked on numerous First Nation Lands including Thunderchild, Saddle Lake, Red Pheasant, Loon Lake, Frog Lake, and Onion Lake.

Justin Maines - B.Sc. (Honours) Land Use and Environmental Studies:
Justin Maines graduated from the Land Use and Environmental Studies (LUEST) Program at the University of Saskatchewan. Studies at the university concentrated on soil science, geography, environmental assessment, and economics. Previous employment has provided Justin with experience in conducting detailed site assessments (DSA’s), Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments (ESA’s).
Through X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd., Justin has handled projects on private land, provincial crown land (AB and SK) and land under Federal jurisdiction (PFRA & First Nation Lands in both AB and SK). Justin has gained experience conducting field assessments and report preparation to complete Pre-Disturbance Assessments, Environmental Audits, Environmental Assessments, Project Proposals / Restoration Plans, Environmental Protection Plan, and spill monitoring and clean-up. As a result of these projects, Justin has also monitored seismic operations, lease and access road construction and reclamation, drilling, pipeline construction and reclamation, and spill clean-up on private land, provincial crown land and land under Federal jurisdiction.
Justin has worked in a wide range of sensitive environments throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan including PFRA community pastures, WHPA (Wildlife Habitat Protection Act) lands, the Northern Provincial Forest, and the Manitou Sand Hills. Justin’s experience on First Nation Lands includes both field assessments and writing of Environmental Assessments for seismic, drilling and pipelining programs on the Onion Lake, Frog Lake, Red Pheasant, Loon River, Little Pine, Kapawe’no and Thunderchild First Nations. Justin has also completed cultural awareness orientation held at the Onion Lake First Nation.

Steven Hankey P. Ag (SK, AB) – B.Sc. Agriculture:
Steven Hankey graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a four year degree in Agriculture, majoring in Plant Ecology with a minor in Soil Science. Steve’s degree focused on the ecology and biology of wild areas, supplemented with a strong background in soil science. Steve also has studies in geography, environmental chemistry, and environmental toxicology to name a few. The combination of education and work experience has given Steve a valuable perspective in ecosystem and environmental management.
Prior to working at X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd, Steve worked in the forest industry in northwest Saskatchewan. He implemented research and forest harvesting activities on a regular basis and later in his career managed the company’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Since joining X-Terra Environmental Consulting Ltd, Steve has worked primarily in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region. Steve has experience in environmental compliance monitoring for various upstream oilfield construction activities including pipeline, power line, wellpad, facility installations, spill cleanup/remediation and waste management. As an Agrologist, he has ensured construction projects meet any soil salvage and stockpiling requirements for use later during reclamation activities.
Steve also has experience in writing Pre-Disturbance Assessment and As-Built Reports. Steve has cultivated good relationships with regulatory agencies during his career through good communication and mutual respect. He has worked extensively with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on watercourse crossings and Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment on forestry/environmental issues.

Darren Gordon – Office Manager:
Darren brings 14 years of office experience with him from California and is in charge of many of the day-to-day office functions. These include Accounts Payable and Receivable, Employee Payroll, Safety Coordination (Employee Tickets), and tracking of current jobs and programs that X-Terra has underway.
