Project Manager, Environmental Assessment and Compliance
Reporting to: Vice President of Operations

Position Overview:
X-Terra Environmental Services Ltd. is currently seeking to fill a position for Project Manager, Environmental Compliance and Assessment in our Lloydminster office. This role is ideal for an experienced environmental professional with a strong background in regulatory permitting, environmental impact assessments, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will lead projects in infrastructure, energy, and industrial development sectors, ensuring timely and effective delivery of environmental approvals and compliance monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and deliver environmental assessment and compliance projects across a range of sectors, including oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, power, and industrial redevelopment.
Lead and coordinate the preparation and submission of environmental assessments, regulatory documents, and permit applications under provincial, federal, and municipal frameworks.
Oversee compliance with environmental permits, approvals, and conditions through effective monitoring, reporting, and documentation.
Provide strategic advice to clients on environmental regulations, permitting pathways, and risk mitigation strategies.
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of environmental professionals, including hiring, training, and performance management.
Manage project scope, schedule, staffing, budgets, and financial performance, including cost tracking, reporting, and invoicing.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory changes, best practices, and communicate updates to project teams.
Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, bids, and regulatory submissions to ensure quality and compliance standards are met.
Standardize and maintain data collection, analysis, and reporting tools, including the integration of GPS and GIS technologies.
Ensure health and safety compliance through active participation in corporate safety programs, incident reporting, job hazard assessments, and monthly safety meetings.
Support business development through client relationship management, proposal development, and participation in strategic growth initiatives.
Travel occasionally to project sites and client meetings; accommodate extended fieldwork when necessary.
Perform other related duties as required to support project delivery and company operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Resource Management, or a related field. A technical Diploma with relevant experience will also be considered.
Professional designation or Qualified Professional status (e.g., P.Biol., R.P.Bio., P.Ag., or equivalent) is preferred.
5–12 years of progressive and directly related experience in environmental permitting, assessment, monitoring, and compliance, particularly on infrastructure and industrial projects in Alberta, Saskatchewan and/or British Columbia.
In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks, and permitting processes.
Demonstrated experience leading environmental assessments, spill response and inspection, site reclamation planning, and preparation of technical reports and As-Built documentation.
Proficient in wildlife and vegetation survey methods, weed surveys, and development of mitigation strategies.
Skilled in soil and water sampling, turbidity and limnological monitoring, hydrological data collection, and erosion and sediment control planning.
Competent in environmental desktop screenings, private land checklists, technical memoranda, proposals, and mitigation plan development.
Strong technical writing, data management, and analysis capabilities.
Proven ability to manage complex projects, lead multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff.
Effective communicator with experience engaging Indigenous communities, regulators, stakeholders, and clients.
Ability to work independently or within a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Willingness and flexibility to travel for extended fieldwork and work irregular hours as needed.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Wetland/Wildlife Ecologist
Reporting to: Vice President of Operations
Location: Lloydminster
Position Overview:
X-Terra Environmental Services Ltd. is currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Wetland/Wildlife Ecologist to join our growing team in Lloydminster. The successful candidate will support a variety of regulatory and field programs in Western Canada, with a focus on wetlands, vegetation, and wildlife assessments in prairie and boreal landscapes.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and execute field programs for wetland delineation and classification, wildlife surveys, vegetation inventories, soil descriptions, and habitat assessments in compliance with provincial and federal guidelines.
Prepare and submit regulatory documentation including Wetland Assessment and Impact Reports (WAIR), WAIFs, Water Act applications, and other environmental permitting requirements.
Identify and evaluate environmental sensitivities and constraints related to proposed developments, including wetlands, rare plants, wildlife habitats, and species at risk.
Conduct wildlife field studies including breeding bird surveys, amphibian call surveys, winter tracking, and remote camera monitoring.
Develop detailed field data collection protocols and ensure data integrity, accuracy, and completeness.
Coordinate and manage field logistics, including safety planning, equipment preparation, and travel arrangements for remote and multi-day fieldwork.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior biologists and field staff in both office and field settings.
Analyze and interpret ecological data using scientific methods and relevant regulatory frameworks.
Write clear, concise, and technically sound environmental reports and deliverables to support project approvals and client decision-making.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including environmental scientists, project managers, and regulatory specialists.
Support proposal preparation, including scoping, budget development, and scheduling for vegetation, wetland, and wildlife components.
Represent X-Terra in client meetings, regulatory discussions, and public consultations when required.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policy changes, and best practices in wetland, wildlife, and vegetation ecology.
Ensure all work complies with internal quality assurance standards and client requirements.
Adhere to and promote X-Terra’s health and safety policies and field safety standards.
Utilize GIS and mapping software to support spatial analysis and presentation of ecological data (optional but preferred).
Qualifications:
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
Registered or eligible for registration as P.Biol., P.Ag., or equivalent.
3–10+ years of relevant environmental consulting experience.
Demonstrated experience in wetland and wildlife field programs.
Familiarity with the Alberta Wetland Policy, Water Act, and EPEA permitting processes.
Strong plant and/or wildlife identification skills in prairie and boreal regions.
Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with GIS considered an asset.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

Senior Environmental Specialist
Reporting to: Vice President of Operations
Location: Lloydminster
Position Overview:
X-Terra Environmental Services Ltd. is currently seeking to fill a position for a Senior Environmental Specialist in our Lloydminster office. The primary role of the successful candidate will be to provide key support for environmental assessments, environmental monitoring, reclamation, regulatory applications and permitting within both the Saskatchewan and Alberta regulatory frameworks for the full life-cycle of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Complete environmental monitoring for work in environmentally sensitive areas and on Crown Land.
Complete environmental assessments to identify environmental sensitivities and permitting requirements for projects.
Execute scopes of work, coordinate field activities and provide field leadership/supervision for reclamation programs.
Complete required pre-construction environmental assessments, including species surveys, nest sweeps, bird surveys, vegetation surveys, and wetland identification.
Ensure all field work has been documented and uploaded to site specific files, ensure all required documentation and data has been reviewed and is correct.
Complete Detailed Site Assessments, Phase I and II environmental site assessments and field investigations including any associated remediation and reclamation work for various oil and gas facilities.
Assist with writing regulatory permitting applications and technical reports, for oil and gas, utilities, transportation, and mining industries.
Assist with general project coordination and project cost tracking.
Act as a liaison between client, contractors, sub-contractors and other stakeholders.
Provide mentorship and direction to junior staff to monitoring, soil/vegetation assessments and sampling.
Actively participate in the Corporate Health & Safety Program.
Travel for fieldwork to complete assessments and monitoring.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree from a post‐secondary program in biology, environmental science, or a related earth science discipline is required.
Meet the “Required Qualifications: Field Environmental Monitors for Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Development Projects”, Saskatchewan Petroleum Industry/Government Environment Committee (SPIGEC), Guideline No. 6, January 2002.
2+ years of environmental consulting in the oil and gas industry.
Experience working with IOGC, OneStop, IRIS and First Nations communities considered and asset.
Experience with environmental consulting for environmental construction monitoring, reclamation, remediation, gas migration, drilling waste and biophysical pre-disturbance assessments such as vegetation, wildlife, wetlands, soil.
Working with heavy equipment (excavations, earthmoving) is considered and asset.
Experience conducting species surveys using the Saskatchewan Species Detection Surveys and/or Alberta Sensitive Species Inventory Guidelines Survey Protocols.
Vegetation identification skills, in support of the delineation requirements of the Alberta Wetland Classification. System; Native Prairie, Forested and agricultural vegetation identification are considered an asset.
Previous experience in DSA’s, Phase I and II environmental site assessments is considered an asset.
A valid Class 5 driver’s licence, with a satisfactory driver’s abstract, as determined by the company.
Valid Standard First Aid CPR‐C, H2S Alive, and TDG certification at time of position start.
ATV/UTV/Snowmobile, Drone license, Ground Disturbance Level II certification is considered an asset.
Experience driving off-road, towing a trailer, 4x4 and in all weather conditions.
Agriculture & Forestry experience considered an asset.

Position Overview:
X-Terra Environmental Services Ltd. is currently seeking to fill seasonal/contract positions for Environmental Technologists in our Lloydminster and Saskatoon offices. The primary role of the successful candidates will be to support our senior biologists with vegetation and/or wildlife surveys, other environmental assessments, data entry, and associated reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Wildlife identification and surveys, focusing on breeding bird surveys.
Vegetation identification and inventory.
Environmental Site Assessment/Pre‐Disturbance Site Assessment.
Wetland classification (Stewart & Kantrud, Alberta, and Canadian Wetland Classification Systems)
Soil sampling and field screening.
Data entry.
Help prepare environmental assessment reports for the oil & gas, utility, and mining industries.
Assist with general administration and project cost tracking.
Mitigation planning.
Participate in and adhere to, corporate and client safety programs.
Qualifications:
Completion or current enrollment in a post‐secondary program in biology, environmental science or a related earth science discipline is required.
Must be able to demonstrate experience with plant identification and/or wildlife identification, in particular breeding bird calls.
Must be able to travel for extended periods to complete required field surveys or monitoring.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Must be able to work independently or in a team environment.
Strong technical report writing skills and the ability to track costs.
Demonstrated field experience conducting rare plant surveys using the Saskatchewan Rare Vascular Plan surveys and/or the Guidelines for Rare Vascular Plant Surveys in Alberta Protocols will be given preference.
Demonstrated field experience conducting breeding bird surveys using the Saskatchewan Grassland and Forest Bird and/or Alberta Sensitive Species Inventory Guidelines Survey Protocols will be given preference.
Wetland vegetation plant identification skills, in support of the delineation requirements of the Alberta Wetland Classification System, considered an asset.
Aquatics or fisheries field experience is considered an asset.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
Valid Standard First Aid CPR‐C certification.
Valid H2S Alive certification.
Ground Disturbance Level II and TDG certifications are considered an asset.
