SAGD Thermal Project

Project Summary

X-Terra Environmental Services Ltd. was commissioned in 2016 and 2017 to assist with the planning and conduct the environmental assessments for a Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) Thermal Facility, and to complete the reporting for a Technical Proposal for submission to EASB. This included approximately 45km of associated pipeline and the HDD of several water crossings, as well as the central processing facility, well pads and associated above-ground pipelines and midstream facilities. In 2018 and 2019 X-Terra was commissioned to complete the pre-construction wildlife assessments and the environmental monitoring during project construction.

Our Role

X-Terra conducted initial site and environmental assessments in 2016, including biological surveys such as winter tracks, amphibian, breeding bird, minnow traps, species specific, and rare plant surveys, and physical assessments such as wetlands and soils. An additional round of surveys was completed in 2017 with changes in the placement of SAGD and SWD Pad. This information was used to compose a Technical Proposal submission for the project.

X-Terra conducted pre-construction nest sweeps, species surveys, and amphibian surveys, and monitored construction activities to ensure regulatory compliance in 2018 and 2019.
